Features

The Highway Roadmap Management System is fully configurable with regard to users, data structures and terminology.

Terminology

The terms used to describe roadmap elements may not align with the terminology your organization uses. You may use Ready To Ship (RTS) instead of Launch Date; Gate rather than Milestone; Product Type instead of Class etc. In Highway you can modify key terms to assist in making your roadmaps make more sense.

Configuration

Products on a roadmap possess a number of characteristics. Bearing in mind that as stated above you can modify what these characteristics are called, the following are fully configurable:

  • Business Units
  • Regions
  • Countries
  • Product lines
  • Product categories
  • Rollout and milestone statuses
  • Product classes (e.g. New product, Product update etc.)
  • Milestones
  • Milestone categories

Product types/classes

Not all products are subject to the same rollout strategy and set of milestones. That’s where product classes come into play. A class defines a set of milestones that are applied to a product rollout. For example, a New Product may milestones A, B, C and D associated with its rollout. A Product Update may have milestones B, C and E associated with its rollouts. These sets of milestones (classes) are fully configurable and can be thought of rollout templates to be applied to roadmapped products.

Product management

Every product on your Highway roadmap has associated with it a set of characteristics. One on your roadmap you can manage these characteristics in terms of tracking and moving milestones and launch dates, adding reference notes, links, changing overall statuses, changing milestone statuses etc.

Visual roadmaps

Roadmap data can be viewed in three different formats, all with filter features to enable you to produce the roadmap view you require.

  • Calendar – shows product launches and milestones on an easy to read month-by-month calendar layout.
  • Timeline – shows your product rollout lifespan in a timeline format, showing only the lifespan itself or with marked milestones and statuses.
  • Tabular – this is the key roadmap view in our experience of how organisations wish to view roadmap data.

Once the required roadmap view is created using filters, users can then save their roadmap for quick access. Users with administrator rights can also save roadmap views for all other users to access quickly.

Users

Just like with any operating system, user types can be configured in Highway. For instance you can define user types such as “Unrestricted access”, “View only European data” or “Manage only products in Brazil”.
As many users as you required can be created in Highway.

No limits

There is no restriction to the number of products, complexity of configuration or number of users you can set up in Highway.
Note: Highway is only limited in terms of capacity and performance by your SQL server license, host server specification and network characteristics. The Highway system itself imposes no restrictions.
